The entire cast of “Supergirl” hit the stage at San Diego Comic-Con Saturday (July 23), including its newest cast member, Tyler Hoechlin. The actor will be joining the crew in National City as Kara’s cousin, Clark Kent, a.k.a. Superman.

“Season 1, the show is about Kara. So it confused matters to have Superman there,” says executive producer Sarah Schecter. “But now you guys know her and who she is, and this show is about family and becoming an adult. And now we have Clark to represent the family.”

The budding relationship between James Olson (Mehcad Brooks) and Kara (Melissa Benoist) will prove difficult as Kara tries to figure out exactly who she is.

“It’s going to have its ups and downs,” Brooks says. “She’s still figuring out who she is a woman, and I’m doing the same. So we’ll see.”

We’ll also see what cousin Clark thinks of the relationship as Brooks confirms he and his Metropolis pal will have “some bro time.”

But, most importantly, we now know who’s in the pod: Chris Wood.

Yes, Kai from “The Vampire Diaries,” and Jake Riley from “Containment,” is bringing all his handsomeness to “Supergirl” as an alien of some sort. And perhaps a Kryptonian love interest for Kara?

Season 2 of “Supergirl” premieres Monday, Oct. 10 on The CW.

Comic-Con: ‘Supergirl’ Star Tyler Hoechlin Talks “Responsibility” of Playing Superman

Executive producer Sarah Schechter also discussed the former CBS show’s move to The CW for season two.

Supergirl‘s Saturday Comic-Con panel wound up being Supersized when the drama’s new Superman Tyler Hoechlin joined the cast onstage.

The CBS-turned-CW show is introducing the Man of Steel in the first two episodes of season two, and while production has not yet begun on the sophomore frame, the Teen Wolf alum is ready to don the famed tights and cape.

“It’s definitely incredibly surreal,” Hoechlin said of portraying the iconic DC Comics character. “I know the character represents so much to so many people. This is not a generational thing. This is something literally spread across so much time. There is a lot of responsibility with this character. I’m really excited. I have not tried on the suit yet. That will be a moment for sure.”

He also delighted the crowd by showing off the “Superman curl” by brushing one lock of hair onto his forehead, before bursting into laughter. But why did the showrunners wait until season two to introduce Superman?

“In season one, the show’s about Kara [Melissa Benoist] and about Supergirl,” executive producer Sarah Schechter said. (EP Greg Berlanti skipped Comic-Con this year to spend time with his family.) “It would have confused matters to have Superman there. But now you know her and have a sense of who she is, and this show is about family. Clark is how we represent the family [she comes from] and it’s only natural now that Kara reconnects with him.”

The announcement of Superman’s introduction came on the heels of the show’s move from CBS — which passed on a second season — to The CW, which was more than happy to find room on its crowded schedule for another DC Comics show.

“We’re so grateful to CBS for launching this show, for all their support,” Schechter said. “But we were all thrilled to learn about this [move] because obviously we do so much with The CW [with Berlanti’s other shows]. There’s shorthand, you say metahuman and they know what you’re talking about. It’s nice to be all in the same place, literally and figuratively.”

And now that Supergirl is on the same network as Arrow, The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, and all four shows will cross over in one big event this fall, Supergirl will become incorporated into the so-called “Flarrowverse” this season.

“It’s really complicated,” Schechter said of how they were writing that story. “If I told you, I’d have to kill you. But we’re super excited for the crossovers with all four shows.”

During the panel, Schechter also revealed a little more information about new series regular Chris Wood’s (CW’s since-canceled Containment) “secret” DC Comics role.

“I don’t think they care,” Schechter joked to the audience about not revealing who Wood was playing. “Maybe if they knew that he was in the pod? There’s the big answer. There’s the big reveal.”

The producer, along with the cast, were also over the moon about the casting of original Wonder Woman,Lynda Carter joining the series in a recurring role for season two as the President of the United States. But as for what brings the POTUS into Supergirl’s orbit, Schechter remained tight lipped.

“Big things are happening. Big things have to happen to get Superman and Supergirl together. We should expect that a female president is going to lead well. We’re with her. That’s our hashtag,” she said in a nod to another certain Democratic presidential candidate’s mantra.

Supergirl season two premieres Monday, Oct. 10 at 8 p.m. on The CW.
